Provincial Work

In 2005, the provincial action plan "A Better World for Women - Moving Forward 2005-2010" was announced. The potential to expand sexual assault awareness and service delivery across the Province was a central component of this action plan.

FSACC’s Provincial Strategy responds to the need to enhance, expand, create, and coordinate community based sexual assault services in New Brunswick.

FSACC’s provincial staff work closely with established networks and partners to improve community responses to sexual assault. Here are some of the activities that have been accomplished through FSACC’s Provincial Strategy:

    • The establishment of a Provincial Advisory Committee

    • Community needs assessments

    • Community and provincial forums on a wide variety of topics related to sexual assault and community engagement

    • A province-wide awareness campaign called “Let’s Talk About It”

    • The creation of the Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training (SACIT) program for service providers

    • The development of a Comprehensive Sexual Violence Framework in partnership with Provincial Government Departments such as Public Safety, Justice, and Education

    • Through federal funding, the development of a feasibility study which studied the implementation of sexual assault services in three communities (Acadian Peninsula, Edmundston, and Saint John)

Our provincial work uses a grassroots approach in order to reflect community needs, and better implement community responses. The work of the Provincial Strategy is always influenced by the needs of community members in all areas of the province. The Provincial Strategy in proactive in getting feedback, input, and contributions from community members in a wide variety of disciplines, and is inclusive of Francophone, Anglophone, and Aboriginal populations.
